Welcome to the Noongar season, Birak 01 December 2022 Today marks the first day of Birak (December to January) in the Noongar seasonal calendar. It’s the moasaic burning time where burning across the country happens and the afternoons are cooled by the sea breezes that abound from the southwest. It is known as the season of the young. HSS Cadet Jasmine Unno is here to share some of her kaartdijin (knowledge) about this season and Noongar culture in the video. Sharing this kaartdijin is an important part of building Aboriginal cultural awareness at HSS to help create a culturally safe and inclusive environment that attracts Aboriginal people to our workforce. It also aligns with our Diversity and Inclusion Strategy which aims to create a workplace where all employees are seen, valued and respected.

HSS take on global contrast media shortage 31 October 2022 Earlier this year a world-wide shortage of organ imaging contrast media began affecting the healthcare system as a COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai caused manufacturing delays. The iodine-containing substance used in X-ray imaging, CT scans and angiograms, helps physicians diagnose medical conditions making it vital to patient care. The HSS Procurement and Supply (P&S) team stepped up to the challenge and responded quickly to the global shortage to ensure our customers had sufficient supply.

Sue Sutherland, HSS HR Consultant, has a career which spans 53 years. Meet Marie Hanna - National Citizenship Day 17 September 2022 Australia is home to a colourful mix of nationalities and backgrounds, but our Australian citizenship is the common bond which unites us all. Every year on 17 September, Australia welcomes thousands of new citizens in local communities across the nation. Marie Hanna, a Team Leader in Accounts Payable at HSS, is a newly minted Australian citizen. Marie was born in a town called Valence, in Southern France, to a Lebanese father and a French mother. Marie stayed in Valence until she finished high school then went to university to study Optometry. Part of the course required a six-month internship and Perth was one of the places offered by the university. Ever since Marie was small, she knew she wanted to live in an English-speaking country, and maybe even one day have bilingual children, so she packed her bags and flew to Perth, a place she had not previously even heard of.
