WA Health Excellence Award winners 29 November 2024 We are pleased to share the fantastic news that HSS were winners at the 2024 WA Health Excellence Awards on Thursday 7 November. The deserving ePrescribing team were recognised for their brilliant work in the ‘Excellence in Safety and Quality’ category. A first for public health in Australia, the successful state-wide roll out of ePrescribing at public hospitals has been well received by patients, providers, and pharmacists. Over 7,000 ‘script tokens’ are being issued weekly with a total of 315,000 issued to date. HSS developed the ePrescribing application ‘in house’ and WA’s program is the first, and continues to be the only, example of such a program to be used in public hospitals around Australia. HSS was also part of an all-Health Service Provider (HSP) win for ‘Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing and Culture’ with the Staff with Di...

Sustainable switches 23 October 2024 HSS is committed to transforming our workplace into a greener and more sustainable place. The healthcare sector has always struggled with high waste and high carbon emissions, so we are on a mission to implement eco-friendly alternatives at every corner. Over the past year, HSS has made some big changes to our operations, like reducing plastic waste, supporting local sustainability, and switching to green power. In recognition of our sustainability efforts, we have also just been nominated as a finalist in this year's WA Health Excellence Awards which is a huge achievement. Here are some of the steps we have taken so far: Reducing plastic waste One of our primary focuses has been to cut down on plastic usage, and we've made significant strides in this area: Pallet Wraps: We have switched to a pallet wrap that’s 25% thinner and has more ‘stretch’. Thinner material ...

Reflecting on safety success 23 October 2024 During October each year, we recognise National Safe Work Month and remind ourselves of the importance of having a positive safety culture which emphasises good Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices. The theme for this year is Health and safety is everybody's business. This theme encapsulates a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right across all industries and occupations, while reinforcing the business benefit that comes from committing to safer workplaces. The theme emphasises the positive outcomes of good WHS risk management, highlighting individual, organisational and wider community benefit. At HSS, Safe Work Month is a good time to reflect and be proud of the improvements we have made in WHS and recognise that these achievements could not have been reached without everyone’s efforts. These include, but are not limited to: Record low Lost...

Peel Health Campus transition 23 October 2024 From midnight on 12 August 2024, Ramsay Health Care full responsibility for operation of the hospital transferred into public hands. Planning for this enormous challenge commenced in late-2020, after the State government announced Ramsay Health Care would hand the keys to South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS). HSS supported the SMHS led project with three essential components of the transition and commissioning activities: ICT, Workforce and Procurement and Supply, with the most significant change for transitioning employees being delivered by ICT. As part of the change to existing services a large number of WA Health applications, new to a majority of the transitioning PHC employees, were implemented to ensure consistent models of care across the WA Health landscape and align with other SMHS hospitals. To lessen the change impact, HSS successfully enabled and supported the early tran...

Sign-on with speed 21 October 2024 The rollout of Single Sign-On (SSO) at Armadale Kalamunda Group (AKG) has brought significant improvements in workflow efficiency for staff across various departments. The new system, part of the Department of Health-ledElectonic Medical Record (EMR)Program, which allows for faster and more secure access to clinical information, has already been deployed in key areas such as Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Intensive Care Unit, Maternity, Theatres, Dialysis, Mental Health and more. Health Support Services (HSS) Change Manager Simon Passlow was on-site managing the rollout over the last few weeks. "The rollout has progressed very well, largely attributed to how helpful, proactive, and collaborative the AKG leadership and team have been,” Simon said. So far, SSO has been deployed across 416 clinical workstations, including 83 Workstations on Wheels (WOWs) and 333 desktop PCs, with 953 A...
