Award winners for ‘Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing and Culture’ 08 December 2023 HSS won the category ‘Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing and Culture’ at the 2023 WA Health Excellence Awards, in recognition of our culture and engagement journey over the last several years. In 2017, an organisation-wide survey was conducted to determine our baseline culture. The survey compared the organisation with results from companies across the world which revealed HSS was among the lowest 10 per cent of all participating organisations. Significant changes were required to turn these results around and provide a better workplace for our employees. The HSS Culture and Engagement Journey has meant a refresh of our values, developing a cultural strategy, and transforming HSS’ initiatives. In under five years, there has been significant improvements to our culture in all 12 indices. In 2023 our employee engagement score was the highest across the WA health system. Wh...

In October 2023 Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) went live with the EMIP, the last of nine hospitals scheduled to adopt the new platform, and the conclusion of a years-long project. This is a momentous and exciting change for our medical imaging practitioners and the WA health system. The conclusion of this project ushers in a new era of health care. Better patient journeys, streamlined operations and improved collaboration are just some of the benefits of transitioning to the EMIP. We are proud of the work HSS does to support WA public hospitals in delivering world class clinical care, and of the monumental, collaborative effort of WA Health emplo...

National Week of Deaf People: Meet HSS’s Paul Crawford 29 September 2023 Occurring each September, the National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) is an opportunity for deaf people to celebrate their communities, language, culture, and history. It’s also an opportunity for organisations and individuals to ally with the Deaf community and learn how to better support them. Paul Crawford, Partner Services Officer in ICT Infrastructure at HSS, was born profoundly deaf. Diagnosed at just six months of age, he has never heard what speaking actually sounds like. At first, he was fitted with a body aid, the type of auditory aid offered to children at the time, and later he received bilateral behind the ear hearing aids. “When I first got my hearing aids, Mum had to tape them to my ears as I was known to bury them in the sandpit or throw them in a bucket of water or in the toilet, which meant they had to be sent off for a repair – not a quick fix while livi...
