Organisation Insights

Organisation Insights

We share the bigger picture of who we are, what we stand for, and how we're tracking - not just because we are legally required to do so, but because we value honesty and always operate with integrity and transparency.

Whether you're curious about our sustainability efforts, strategic direction, or budget estimates, this is the place to explore and stay informed.

Sustainability

At HSS, we are committed to improving the sustainability of our workplace and services. As part of the WA health system, we recognise the healthcare sector’s environmental challenges and are proud to lead with practical changes that support the Western Australian Government and WA Health’s sustainability goals. We actively contribute to whole-of-government targets for emissions reduction and environmental impact minimisation, and we encourage all employees to join us in making sustainable choices to benefit our customers and community.

A Few Highlights from Our Sustainability Efforts

Greener offices

Improving resource efficiency in our offices through smarter printing, recycling initiatives, battery recovery programs, Containers for Change participation, and GreenPower-supported electricity.

Greener warehouse operations

Adopting eco-friendly pallet wraps and transitioned warehouse machinery and equipment from petrol/gas-powered to electric alternatives.

Warehouse environment with pallets wrapped in plastic

Secure and sustainable ICT disposal

Introducing secure data deletion processes that enable ICT equipment to be recycled or remarketed, reducing e-waste.

Sustainable procurement

Embedding sustainability into procurement through staff education, sustainability guidance for sourcing activities, supplier assessments, and environmental evaluation criteria.

Sustainability capability and awareness

Building a culture of sustainability by developing staff capability, supporting climate literacy training, and integrating sustainability considerations into project planning.

Statement of expectation and intent

A Statement of Expectation has been provided by the Minister for Health which outlines their expectations of Health Support Services in relation to our functions and responsibilities as a Health Service Provider under the Health Services Act 2016 (WA). The HSS Board is accountable for meeting these expectations and is required to report on a quarterly basis to the Minister for Health.

A Statement of Intent is provided by the HSS Board to the Minister for Health in response to the Statement of Expectation. It outlines our intentions to meet expectations set out by the Minister for Health.

Annual Reports

HSS is required to produce and table an annual report in Parliament each year. The report informs Parliament about how well the organisation is achieving specific and whole-of-Government objectives, achievements throughout the year, as well as our financial position.

We're excited to share our 2024-25 Annual Report which reflects another period of meaningful progress, collaboration, and innovation across HSS. It features a fresh new design making it easier than ever to navigate and read, so you can explore the stories and achievements that define our year. The Annual Report is a celebration of the incredible work we have contributed to in support of the WA heath system and the communities we serve. This year’s printed edition is our first sustainable edition, published on FSC-approved 100 per cent recycled paper.
