  • Lesbian Visibility Day is 26 April 26 April 2023 Lesbian Visibility Dayis celebrated annually on 26 April, a day to recognise and celebrate the contributions of lesbianwomen around the world. Lucy Gericevich, Manager Recruitment and Appointment, explained it’s a day where lesbians can celebrate their uniqueness with the broader human community, but also celebrate their togetherness with the queer community. “It’s such a huge step forward in our society that we have these special days to celebrate and acknowledge our own journeys, and to be included,” she said. Lucy said that while she had known most of her life that she was different, it wasn’t until she was in her 40s that she knew she was gay, after meeting the love of her life. “When I came out to my mother she was shocked and asked me not to tell anyone in the family. This was the same woman who then accepted my partner as another daughter, a...
  • HSS go live with game-changing medical imaging transformation 12 April 2023 The Medical Imaging Replacement Program (MIRP) team successfully went live in March 2023 with the new Enterprise Medical Imaging Platform (EMIP) at Rockingham and Murray District Hospitals, and in April 2023 at Fremantle and Fiona Stanley Hospitals. Huge congratulations to the MIRP team who have been patiently and diligently working on this first go-live. They are now well on their way with the transition to a new medical imaging system for all major public metropolitan hospitals in WA. The EMIP provides a suite of integrated applications that improve digital diagnostic imaging for clinicians and medical staff. A lot of hard work has gone into the remediation of the existing Agfa system (Agfa Picture Archiving and Communication System/Radiology Information System (PACS/RIS)) and the building and commissioning of the new EMIP. The EMIP has now begun replacing the existing Agfa system, PAC...

  • Perth artist’s portrait of Fiona Wood a hopeful for this year’s Archibald Prize 15 March 2023 A portrait of Perth’s world-renowned burns specialist Professor Fiona Wood will soon be on its way for consideration in the 2023 Archibald Prize exhibition, an annual art competition organised by the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney. The artwork, titled Fiona on Skin, sees Professor Wood’s portrait engraved or ‘etched’ on to a large piece of cow leather stretched over a wooden frame, with acrylics used to paint her features. Part time artist, full time change management professional Deb Hamm from Health Support Services explained she chose leather as the ‘canvas’ because she felt it was symbolic to have Professor Wood’s portrait on ‘skin,’ noting her prolific work in this area. “The cow leather, or ‘skin,’ not only highlights her amazing contributions to science, but also brings the viewer to a sense of understanding of...
  • HSS extends a hand to Kimberley’s flood affected regions 08 February 2023 Our supply and warehouse teams have recently worked in partnership with the Disaster Management & Response Directorate and Environmental Health Directorate at Department of Health, to coordinate the delivery of nearly 3,500 bottles of hand sanitiser to WA flood affected communities. Only a few weeks ago, rural and remote communities in the Kimberley were hit hard with the worst flooding ever documented in the history of WA. Flood waters are not only dangerous from a safety perspective, but they can also contain many contaminants that can be harmful and lead to serious illness. Exposure to contaminated floodwater can cause things like infection, gastrointestinal illness and tetanus. With many people not having access to clean water for sanitation purposes, we realised the impacted communities may have a need for hand sanitiser, so our teams sprang into action to ship some of WA Hea...
