The ICT Applications Integration and Planning and Architecture teams finished the financial year on a high, with the completion of three key projects for My Health Record.

Dr Peter Sprivulis, Chief Clinical Information Officer, said of the achievements, “These capabilities are essential components of the information sharing bridge we are supporting the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) build between WA Health and WA's community and private health sectors - for the benefit of all Western Australians!”

Paperless

Electronic prescribing (ePrescribing) has been rolled out statewide at all sites.

Electronic prescribing provides a secure, fast, and efficient supply of medicines to Australians. A unique electronic token (in the form of a QR code) is created and sent to the consumer as an SMS or email.

Over 250,000 electronic scripts have now been issued and now at a rate of over 6,000 per week.

No more exemptions

WA no longer needs to apply for an exemption for not providing Healthcare Provider Identifiers – Individual (HPI-I) in documents uploaded to My Health Record.

The HPI-I integration work means all documents uploaded from WA now contain the unique identifier of the clinician who authored the document. WA is the first and only Jurisdiction in Australia that has this capability.

This is a major win for all hospitals going through accreditation who report on their implementation plan for the use of these identifiers as part of their hospital accreditation.

The Australian Digital Health Agency’s Chief Digital Officer, Peter O’Halloran, expressed his appreciation for the significant work WA Health has undertaken to support this initiative.

“Thank you for your continued commitment to connecting Australia’s healthcare system and congratulations on completing the work that means that you are now fully compliant with this requirement.”

Greater instant access

In a leap forward in integration, pathology reports can now be uploaded to My Health Record in a structured (atomic format). This will allow for greater instant access to these reports by clinicians.

These three milestones are another great example of the HSS value’s “we put our customers at the heart of what we do” and “we make a difference together”.
