Welcome to the Noongar season, Birak
Today marks the first day of Birak (December to January) in the Noongar seasonal calendar. It’s the moasaic burning time where burning across the country happens and the afternoons are cooled by the sea breezes that abound from the southwest. It is known as the season of the young.
HSS Cadet Jasmine Unno is here to share some of her kaartdijin (knowledge) about this season and Noongar culture in the video.
Sharing this kaartdijin is an important part of building Aboriginal cultural awareness at HSS to help create a culturally safe and inclusive environment that attracts Aboriginal people to our workforce. It also aligns with our Diversity and Inclusion Strategy which aims to create a workplace where all employees are seen, valued and respected.
