Creating a Better On-Boarding Experience
A collaboration between Health Support Services (HSS) and South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) to pilot a new electronic system is helping to make the on-boarding process simpler and faster for new SMHS employees.
On-boarding is the process where new employees are required to provide HSS with information such as their tax details, superannuation, banking details, health and police clearances before a contract of employment is issued.
The new system enables individuals to complete most on-boarding forms through an online portal instead of filling in multiple paper forms that they are required to sign and return via the post or email.
The intuitive system ensures all mandatory information is not overlooked, minimising errors and the need to return the forms to the new employee which could delay the on-boarding process. It also stores all information about an applicant in one place that can be easily accessed by various HSS teams for processing.
Ben Kirkham, HSS Project Manager and System Administrator of the Electronic On-boarding System, said the aim of the initiative is to improve the overall on-boarding experience for new employees.
“Initial feedback from our customers has been positive, with many commenting that the on-boarding system has made the process easier and enables new employees to commence their employment in a timely manner,” Ben said.
Plans are in place to progressively roll out the Electronic On-boarding System across the WA public health system.
