HSS extends a hand to Kimberley’s flood affected regions
Our supply and warehouse teams have recently worked in partnership with the Disaster Management & Response Directorate and Environmental Health Directorate at Department of Health, to coordinate the delivery of nearly 3,500 bottles of hand sanitiser to WA flood affected communities.
Only a few weeks ago, rural and remote communities in the Kimberley were hit hard with the worst flooding ever documented in the history of WA.
Flood waters are not only dangerous from a safety perspective, but they can also contain many contaminants that can be harmful and lead to serious illness. Exposure to contaminated floodwater can cause things like infection, gastrointestinal illness and tetanus.
With many people not having access to clean water for sanitation purposes, we realised the impacted communities may have a need for hand sanitiser, so our teams sprang into action to ship some of WA Health’s surplus supply to the Kimberley.
The supplies are heading to the Shire of Broome and will be distributed to local community groups in the Kimberley region.
Sadly, many communities in the Kimberley are still recovering from the devastating floods, if you would like to know how you can help, visit Kimberley Floods (dfes.wa.gov.au).
