Meet Samantha Casserly - Manager Accounts Payable
Samantha is our Manager, Accounts Payable and her team is responsible for facilitating all payments of sundry expenses and services on behalf of WA’s metropolitan public hospitals.
Each year, HSS arranges the payment of more than 495,800 invoices on behalf of the WA health system.
“We support our customers by processing payments on their behalf to ensure continuity of services, whilst providing advice around expenditure policy and procedures to ensure compliance and value for service,” Samantha says.
Samantha has worked with HSS since 2007, formerly Health Corporate Network (HCN), and says she couldn’t be prouder to work for an organisation supporting the WA health system.
“A real driver for me working at HSS is the fact that we directly support the doctors, nurses and allied health professionals working in our hospitals.
“It is extremely rewarding to know the services we deliver allows the WA health system to operate smoothly and provide the great level of care the WA public have come to know and expect.”
The best thing about coming to work every day, Samantha says, is having the opportunity to work with and be shaped by incredible people.
“I’m fortunate to have a great team around me and leaders who are amazing role models.
“I love getting to know my team, sharing experiences and learning what motivates them. We are only as good as our people, so I try to invest as much as I can into them and work together as a collective to achieve our goals.”
Samantha goes on to add that at HSS, everyone acknowledges and respects one another and each other’s opinions.
“This allows for an open and constructive workplace culture, where everyone can grow, innovate and get creative in how we go about things.
“We don’t have that attitude of ‘this is how we’ve always done it so it’s the only way it can be done’. We have a great culture which fosters collaboration and openness. We all have a voice and I feel I can speak up, put my opinion forward and it’s valued.
“The people here also have a great sense of humour. We have some real comedians -- so it’s worth rocking up every day.”
Reflecting on the past year supporting our customers to provide excellent health care, Samantha tells us how proud she is of her team for finding ways to continue delivering services when our customers needed them the most.
“I think remaining solution-focused in the face of adversity, especially during these challenging times, has been the thing that’s kept us going strong,” she says.
“When the COVID-19 pandemic was evolving early last year, it was a time of such uncertainty and it was quite stressful, but the team were able to come together and find a way to continue delivering our services without interruption.
“We didn’t miss a beat, and to our customers they would have seen that things were continuing as normal.
“The reality was, at the time, our team were experiencing the same emotions and anxieties as our customers. But, we had to put that aside, adapt to changes in the way we worked and all pitched in to help one another out.
“Looking back at what we achieved and how we did it really shows that by living our HSS values we can deliver on our purpose.”
