A Health has transformed healthcare delivery through the successful completion of the Single Sign On (SSO) and Digital Medical Record (DMR) systems – major milestones in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Program.

As part of the Department of Health EMR Program, HSS has proudly partnered with Health Service Providers to deploy these solutions, transforming WA Health digital practices and paving the way for an Electronic Medical Record system in WA.

The WA Health EMR Program invited people involved in the project to attend an event at QEII on 3 September 2025 to celebrate the statewide completion of the Digital Medical Record (DMR) and SSO Single Sign On (SSO) projects.

Key people from HSS within ICT and Program Delivery, who have been involved with the roll out for several years, attended the event alongside the Director General Dr Shirley Bowen and senior leaders from across WA Health.

WA Health’s statewide roll out of the systems, enhances the digital capability that supports the delivery of care to communities across the state.

These initiatives, completed in August 2025, are improving healthcare services by making them more connected, safer and efficient.

The SSO solution commenced in February 2023 and simplifies the login process for clinicians, providing access to around 90 clinical applications with the tap of a card.

The DMR, which digitises paper-based patient records, ensures clinicians have real time access to complete, up-to-date patient records, in WA Health facilities across the state.

The systems are now live across WA Health sites, including those in metropolitan Perth, Midwest, Kimberley, Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Southwest, Goldfields and Pilbara.

As of July 2025, 44 million documents have been digitised, and approximately 13,000 WA Health staff access the system on a typical weekday.

The SSO system is used by 27,000 clinicians across WA Health with 348,000 logins per week, reducing time clinicians spend logging into their systems, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

Behind-the-scenes transformations are some of the ways HSS supports customers to provide excellent healthcare, and the WA health system can benefit from early benefits from the DMR and SSO as we work toward an Electronic Medical Record system.
