HSS go live with game-changing medical imaging transformation
The Medical Imaging Replacement Program (MIRP) team successfully went live in March 2023 with the new Enterprise Medical Imaging Platform (EMIP) at Rockingham and Murray District Hospitals, and in April 2023 at Fremantle and Fiona Stanley Hospitals.
Huge congratulations to the MIRP team who have been patiently and diligently working on this first go-live. They are now well on their way with the transition to a new medical imaging system for all major public metropolitan hospitals in WA.
The EMIP provides a suite of integrated applications that improve digital diagnostic imaging for clinicians and medical staff. A lot of hard work has gone into the remediation of the existing Agfa system (Agfa Picture Archiving and Communication System/Radiology Information System (PACS/RIS)) and the building and commissioning of the new EMIP.
The EMIP has now begun replacing the existing Agfa system, PACS/RIS (also known as IMPAX) which has reached its end-of-product life, and established a Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA). The new software-only solution is delivered by Canon and their consortium. The major components of the EMIP are the Intelerad PACS, Kestral RIS and Canon VNA.
There are a lot of people responsible for making sure the implementation of the EMIP goes smoothly, including our teams at HSS, vendor partners and staff at hospital sites. We want to say a big thank you to all those involved who have been working with the MIRP team. We would also like to give a shout out to the new ICT clinical specialist team established, Clinical Imaging Support Team, who’s support to the MIRP team has been invaluable already.
Nine major public hospitals within the WA Health System will be progressively transitioned to the new EMIP, which is scheduled for completion in October 2023.
This is a big and exciting change for Medical Imaging and the WA health system as a whole. If you want to find out more about the program, check out the MIRP page on our website.
